Fueling Function: Where Nutrition Meets Myofunctional Health
Designed for dental and healthcare professionals who want to better understand the connection between nutrition, oral function, airway health, and myofunctional therapy.
Reconnecting Nutrition, Oral Function, and Whole-Body Health
This continuing education course explores the relationship between nutrition, oral function, craniofacial development, airway health, sleep, and whole-person wellness.
Designed for dental and healthcare providers, this course takes a practical look at how early feeding practices, chewing demands, nutrient density, modern dietary patterns, and common nutritional deficiencies may influence oral-motor development, facial growth patterns, energy, sleep, oral tissues, wound healing, and neuromuscular function.
Participants will also learn how to incorporate nutrition-aware education into dental and myofunctional care using practical scripts, screening considerations, and collaborative referral strategies that support sustainable, whole-person care.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
-

Explain the relationship between nutrition, oral function, and craniofacial development across the lifespan.
-

Describe how early feeding practices — including texture exposure, chewing opportunities, and nutrient density — may influence oral-motor development and are associated with craniofacial growth patterns.
-

Recognize how modern dietary patterns and reduced chewing demands may contribute to changes in oral function and craniofacial development.
-

Identify common nutritional deficiencies and related clinical signs that may affect energy, sleep, oral tissues, wound healing, and neuromuscular function.
-

Discuss the importance of integrative care, including collaboration with dietitians, feeding specialists, and functional health providers to support whole-person care.
-

Incorporate nutrition-aware education into dental and myofunctional care using practical scripts and tools that support sustainable change.
